* Evolution of Computer describing the technologies in
different generation.
- Evolution
of Computer can be described in terms of generation of computer. Generation is
the step in technology. Each generation uses different technology. All the
generation depend hardware and software used. First generation used vacuum
tubes as memory device. It uses electronic and magnetic field to control the
flow of electrons in any directions. If was large in size and heavy in weight.
They consumed more power and generation more heat. Similarly second generation
of computer used transistor as their memory device. If was smaller in size and
light in weight than vacuum tubes. Thousand of Vacuum tubes were replaced by
one transistor. Also transistors were more reliable and accurate than tubes.
Third generation of computer used IC
as their memory component. IC is made of large number of transistors, diods,
flip-flops etc. they were more reliable faster and more accurate than
transistor and Vacuum tubes. They consumed use power and generate less heat
than Vacuum tubes and transistors. They were also faster and second generation.
Similarly fourth generation of computer used VLSI consists of million of
transistors. Hence they were more reliable and accurate. They consumed less
power, generate less heat. They were also faster and cheaper than transistor.
IC and vacuum tubes. They could store large amount of data and information.
Fifth generation of computer will use bio-chip or VLSI as their memory component.
They are also known as super conductor. They will be
