Fourth Generation of Computers

                                           “Fourth Generation Of Computer”

-  All the computers that used microprocessor or VLSI as their memory component are known as fourth generation of computers. Large scale integration and very large scale integration (VLSI) were used in the construction of the fourth generation computers. It was more reliable, efficient, accurate than the previous generation of computer. Size, price, heat, power consumption were reduced. It was very user-friendly. So many software and hardware were developed. It is know as new generation of computer.   E.g. IBM pc, Pentium pc, Apple/Macintosh.

·        Characteristics of Fourth Generation of Computer.
-         Development of 4th Generation language.
-         Microprocessor or VLSI was used as their memory Component.
-         Micro accurate and reliable than previous generation.
-         Size and Cost was reduced.
-         Multi-processing, Multi-programming, Multi-tasking, Multi-media were possible.
-         Operating Speed increased beyond to Pico-second
-         Micro computer such as Laptop, Desktop, Palmtop were developed.
-         Microprocessors were introduced as CPU– Complete processors and large section of main memory could be implemented in a single chip
-         Tens of thousands of transistors can be placed in a single chip (VLSI design implemented)
-         CRT screen, laser & ink jet printers, scanners etc were developed.
-         Semiconductor memory chips were used as the main memory.
-         Introduced Graphical User Interface
